Metal Detector Used: Coinmaster Series (621-0167)
I'm fairly new to the hobby. We live in a suburb south of Chicago, so finding places to hunt is not ideal here, but I've wanted a metal detector for as long as I can remember. I take my Coinmaster GT out as much as I can, which sadly isn't as often as I'd like. Last year in an empty lot near the train station in town, I dug up what I thought was a dog license from town. What had me confused was the tag had NO 3604 on it, but also 1889. Tinley Park wasn't incorporated until 1892, so I thought the 1889 stood for something we didn't know about. The tag was put into a container with some of my other "treasures" I've recovered and forgotten about............until someone on a Facebook metal detecting page mentioned a book about dog licenses and wanted to see pics of any found. I posted my pic and was surprised to find out it was not something issued by the village, but a Chicago Dog Tax tag issued in 1889. I was also informed that the oldest known CDT tag was from 1880 and that any dog tag prior to 1900 is a rare find. I love my GT and use it every chance I get. Our 3 year old grandson now asks to go digging, so I've got a partner to dig with!
