I recently purchased a White's MXT 300 after using my father's MXT to search for Gold nuggets last year. While I must admit even though I didn't have much success in finding nuggets, the excitement and thrill of possibly finding Gold, jewelry or coins allured me into buying the White's machine! While the primary reason for purchasing the White's MXT 300 was to search for that yellow metal, much to my surprise there was other buried treasures out there yet to be discovered!
After obtaining permission from a land owner to hunt a recently plowed field in NC, it wasn't long before I had my first find. The MXT 300 with the 12" coil picked up a target with ease and I began digging. I was amazed to see that I had unearthed a small Cannon in the soil. My first thought was this must have been a toy that children played with, but much to my surprise it appears the Cannon could have been actually fired since it has a fuse hole! We'll the story doesn't end here.
Within an hour, I had another great signal and was thrilled to find a partial Sterling Silver Spoon. Obviously I was thrilled to have found a sterling silver spoon at this point, but I was not even aware of the magnitude of this find. I took the spoon to a Metal Detector club meeting that I had recently joined and a member pulled me aside and said "do you know what you've found or have any idea how old this is". He turned the spoon around and showed me the stamp (with Stags head) and went on to tell me that I needed to research this find online. After a brief search, I was excited to learn the spoon is a Nouveau Violet pattern with an engraving of the Delaware water gap in PA which dates back from 1902 to 1914! COOL
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than this, I went detecting again and found 7 Civil War bullets! What made it even better, I found five different types (e.g. caliber) of bullets! Words alone cannot describe how excited I was to find Civil War bullets! It is totally incredible and exhilarating to find Civil War relics that have been underground for almost 150 years and there is still more to be found! WOW
For a first time user, I couldn't be more pleased with White's and their products. I guess you can say that I've got the fever and I'm hooked!
Anyone out there who is "on the fence" should jump at the opportunity to purchase a machine and get outdoors to enjoy this sport!
