Went out for first relic hunt of the Fall with a friend of mine. Went to a few old farm fields that have been hit to death by many TH'ers, but have produced good finds in the past for us. First few fields we hit had foot prints all over them and finds were few & far between. Before sunset we went to a small field that goes back to the 1600s. Once again – another pounded spot. We got some musketballs , but not much else but can slaw others left behind. I had just gotten a few small pieces of aluminum can – when I got a nickel sounding hit – +25 VDI . I thought it was going to be another piece of slaw, but when I turned the dirt over – I saw a small disc and figured I had a small flat button. Was surprised when I gave it a slight rub and saw design on it. My friend saw me examining it and asked what I had found. Told him I had a pewter button with an anchor on it. He came over to see it and told me he thought it was a Continental Rev War naval button and rare. Other hunters with other machines have hammered this spot – but my XLT came thru and found what they missed!
